Boundary conversation builder
Say what you can do, what you cannot and what might work instead. Rehearse language that is both direct and respectful.
Prepare your words
A useful boundary acknowledges the request, states a limit and offers a feasible next step. The draft is only a starting point: adjust it to your relationship, responsibilities and the facts. For a safety concern, harassment or a legal obligation, use your organisation’s formal processes rather than relying on a script.
Your rehearsal space
Practise, then make it your own
Try reading your wording aloud. Leave room for the other person to respond, and only offer what you can deliver.

If the boundary is about workload, the delegation decision planner can help clarify ownership. Explore the free coaching guides for deeper reflection.
